REDUCING WASTE AT HEAD & SHOULDERS
Find out how we’re working to reduce the amount of plastic in our packaging and to make sure almost all of our bottles produced can be recycle
Aside from the waste generated in manufacturing , we’re also focusing on the product packaging itself.
As the world’s No.1 shampoo, we understand that we have a responsibility to be good stewards of our environment.
Our privileged position allows us to make changes that can have a really positive impact, as our products are purchased more than 1 billion times a year.
So we’re taking a two-pronged approach to reduce the amount of waste from our packaging:
- Reduce the amount of packaging – by producing lighter packaging and using less plastic, there’s less waste being generated when bottles are empty
Recyclable packaging – even after reducing the packaging, we want to get as much of that waste as we can back into use by recycling it
Reducing our packaging
Since 2008, we’ve reduced the weight of our packaging per ml by over 30%.
We can go further though and by 2020 we’ve committed to reducing our packaging by another 20% compared to 2010 levels.
Recycling the packaging
Recycling plastic is nothing new and many people already recycle a lot of household packaging.
And we’re working to ensure that 90% of our packaging is recyclable.
So once you’ve finished with your bottle of Head & Shoulders, you can recycle it and help reduce waste going to landfill.
It can make a huge difference too. If 90% of our Head & Shoulders bottles were recycled it would save enough energy to power 450 million 60W light bulbs for 6 hours. Every year.
